Two Articles on Attention Profiling

I suggest reading the posts in the same order I did: First, start with a description of how Attention Profiling can be used for music recommendation engines. Then, read a very thorough overview of the technology.

I’m really liking the idea of the Attention Profile: a document which describes your likes and dislikes to share with web services. In the world of online politics, entries into my APML file could be:

  • I’m a Democrat.
  • I’m a Howard Dean Democrat.
  • The three blogs I read religiously are Daily Kos, MyDD, and Political Wire.
  • I’m leaning slightly towards Obama right now.
  • I follow the wacky world of Ron Paul, but I would never vote for him.

Imagine if I could share my APML file with Google. Google Ads could serve me more relevant ads. Google Reader could do a better job of suggesting to me feeds that I have yet to discover.

If I shared my APML file with Facebook, I could be served suggestions for friends, groups to join, events to attend, and candidates to link to.
